24 Hours to Pick Up My Daughter or Pay $25,000 Due to Declined Insurance; Daughter Was NOT Fine Upon Arrival

When I checked my child in for treatment at Evolve Treatment Centers, I was told that she would need to be there for at least 45 days. We proceeded based on that recommendation. I then got a call on the 13th day of treatment saying that insurance was denied. They would complete the treatment if I could get them $25,000. I told them that I didn't have that kind of money and would need to look into getting a loan. They told me that I had 24 hours to find the money or pick her up. I was left with no other choice. I picked her up. When I arrived, she was in shock, raw, and didn't get any closure. When I brought this to the attention of the "counselor" who helped her pack and rushed her to the front door, she said "Oh, she will be fine. This happens all the time." She wasn't fine. With the help of good friends, loving relatives and an amazing teacher from her school, we were able to get her into a much better program that not only saw her through to the end of treatment, they continue to provide support and aftercare for her. What Evolve Treatment Centers did shouldn't be legal. It was unethical and laws need to be changed to stop these programs that treat our kids like commodities.

What was the other program that you ended up putting her in that worked?

Evolve Treatment Centers: Not Where You Want To Send Your Kid

My son is kind, thoughtful, talented and smart. He has never hurt anyone. He struggles with bipolar disorder. He has also attempted to self medicate with the use of illegal drugs- with disastrous results. He does not have an addiction of any sort. I sent him to Evolve Treatment Centers for help with his mental health. All that he did was 12 step work, chores and workbooks that appear to have been designed for young people with learning difficulties or limited intellect. He left the program over medicated, under treated and in much worse shape than when he went in. My biggest regret is that I didn't listen to my instincts as a parents. Things never really felt right, but I kept allowing the staff to make me doubt myself and my son. Never again.

The Kids Are In Charge

Evolve seems to operate as a very poorly organized house. In circumstances where I would think the kids need structure and order, the staff at Evolve seems to be making it up as they go along. Everything happens late, if anything happens at all. The kids run the show here. There is a very weird dynamic between the staff and the kids: the staff try to earn the approval of the kids in treatment while at the same time trying to push a religious agenda. It might seem sinister if they were more competent. As it is, it is really just a big befuddled mess.
